क्षेत्रफल की दृष्टिकोण से भारत विश्व का 7वॉ सबसे बड़ा देश है, जबकी जनसंख्या के दृष्टिकोण से विश्व का दुसरा सबसे बड़ा देश है |

क्षेत्रफल की दृष्टि से भारत से बड़े छः देश है - रूस, कनाडा, चीन, सं. रा. अमेरिका, ब्राजील एवं आस्ट्रेलिया |

भारत का क्षेत्रफल सम्पूर्ण विश्व के क्षेत्रफल का 2.42% है, जबकि इसकी जनसंख्या सम्पूर्ण विश्व की जनसंख्या का 17.74% है | (2 जून 2019 तक सयुंक्त राष्ट्र के अनुसार) 

भारत का उ० से द० में विस्तार 3,214 किमी० है व पू० से प० में विस्तार 2,933 किमी ० है |
